Implenia is an international contractor specialising in complex infrastructure projects such as road and ground works, water and drainage, concrete structures, bridges, tunnels and caverns, water and frost protection, rock protection, environmental services. When the Norwegian unit moved its head office to Fornebuveien 11 at Lysaker, IARK were given the challenge of creating premises that improved the company’s internal communication while at the same time preserving Implenia’s corporate identity. An active user process, in cooperation with Lent, encompassing both surveys and workshops led to a transition from cell-offices to a more open-plan solution. Design elements are inspired by the company’s activities: Material and colour palettes are built around earth, stone and concrete in addition to the colour blue used as a symbol for bridge spans. Reception is designed with a cast concrete front and incorporated logo. The furniture is robust in character, and the lighting echoes tunnel lighting, while almost all foiling has construction and engineering drawings as a common theme.
