Project Description

In collaboration with MAD Arkitekter, IARK won the competition to design a new media house – Media City Bergen. We worked as interior architects for the common area, as well as NRK and Bergens Tidene.

The atrium, which spans over 6 floors, is the heart of the building, and connects all of the different companies. Here we placed the coffee bar as an important meeting point for those working in the building, as well as the public.

IARK’s approach with the design of the common area was to show all the possibilities a flexible solution has to offer. We focused on showing how different areas could serve multiple purposes by facilitating different activities. We designed an entire collection of furniture for the common area called Pastillen, that includes standing tables, benches, planters, and the counter of the coffee bar, in order to tie it all together visually.

Bergens Tidene

The overall goal was to create a work environment that meets the day to day demands of the media industry of the future. We focused on work processes, flexibility, and mobility, all of which have defined the interior concept.

Clean desk/free seating facilitate an activity based work environment. BT’s office space enables the full spectrum of work activities, from individual concentration work in reading rooms to open and social coworking spaces.

The different zones are accentuated by varying use of colour, materials, type of furniture, as well as custom built elements.

NRK Hordaland

IARK’s task was to create optimal workplaces in addition to strengthening the professional and social collaboration internally in the organization. NRK chose an activity based solution.

NRK’s offices are situated in the two bottom floors of the building. The floor between the two levels was opened up and a generous internal staircase was integrated with an amphi to connect the two levels. It lies in direct connection to the only kitchenette and social zone. The amphi was built as an extension of the stairs and has been a natural meeting point. On every floor there are large open floors that make up the office zone, where employees are placed in departments. IARK has focused on breaking up the office landscape with varied furniture and custom built elements.

Artriet
